Tell me what you know. I'll tell you honestly what's possible.
You don't need to have done any research before we speak. A name, a question, and a sense that there must be more to your family story has always been enough to start.
The free consultation call is the better starting point for most people — it gives us the chance to talk through your family's situation before any decision is made. But if you would rather send a message first, that is equally welcome.

A 30-minute conversation about what's possible. You tell me what you know. I explain what I think is possible and whether I am the right person to investigate it. No preparation. No pressure. You decide.
If you would prefer to share a little about your family's situation in writing before speaking, the contact form below is the place to do it. I read every message personally and respond within one working day.
A 30-minute conversation. No surprises. No pressure.
The free consultation call has a simple structure. Here is exactly what to expect.
1
You tell me what you know
Start wherever you are. A name, a place, a decade, a family story that has never quite added up. Many of the most interesting investigations begin with almost nothing. Whatever you have is enough to have a useful conversation.
2
I tell you honestly what's possible
Once I understand your family's situation, I can give you a realistic picture of what records are likely to survive, what the research is likely to uncover, and whether I am the right person to take it on. I will tell you if I think the answer is simpler than you feared.
3
We decide together whether to proceed
If it is a good fit, I will follow up with a simple written scope and a fixed price. If it is not — for any reason — I will tell you that too, and point you toward the best alternative I know. There is never any pressure to commit on the call.
In over 20 years of research, I have never found nothing. I may not find what you hoped for. But I always find something. And occasionally what I find changes everything.

There are no wrong answers and no minimum level of knowledge required. A name and a question is always enough to start.
A few things worth knowing
Before you get in touch. Some reassurance.
Twenty years of personal research
I began researching my own family two decades ago. That personal history — including my Irish father's roots and my wife's Liverpool family — is the foundation of everything I do for clients. I know these records because I have spent years working through them myself.
Fixed pricing. No hidden costs.
Every investigation is quoted at a fixed price before we begin. No hourly rates. No surprise invoices at the end. You know exactly what you are investing and exactly what you will receive before any work starts.
Every discovery handled with care.
Family history often surfaces things that have been hidden for a reason. Whatever the truth turns out to be — no judgement, no assumptions, no pressure on what to do with what we find. Handling difficult findings with care is a core part of how I work.

Frequently asked questions
Before you get in touch. The most common questions.
The most common questions I receive before a first consultation. If yours is not here, please ask — there are no wrong questions.
Yes, completely. The 30-minute call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. It is a conversation, not a sales pitch. I will tell you honestly what I think is possible and whether Meet Your Past is the right fit for your situation. You then decide.
Nothing. Most people arrive with a name, a county, and a rough decade. Some have more. Some have less. I have never once turned down a consultation because someone did not know enough to start. Just bring whatever you have.
Click the "Book Your Free 30-Minute Call" button on this page and choose a time that suits you. The booking system will send you a calendar confirmation with a Zoom link, or we can speak by telephone if you prefer.
If we agree the investigation is a good fit, I send a simple written scope — a paragraph or two describing what I will research, what you will receive, and the fixed price. Once you are happy and a 50% deposit has been paid, I begin the research.
Most investigations are completed within 4 to 8 weeks. More complex cases — particularly those involving DNA evidence or missing records — can take up to 12 weeks. I will give you a realistic estimate on the consultation call and keep you updated throughout.
Yes. I am based in Nottingham and I am happy to visit clients at home across the East Midlands — Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Lincolnshire. For clients further afield, Zoom works just as well. Most of my investigations are conducted entirely online.
Absolutely. Everything you share with me is treated in complete confidence. I do not share information about clients or their investigations with anyone. If you have concerns about a sensitive discovery, please raise them on the consultation call — handling difficult findings with care is a core part of how I work.
I specialise in UK and Irish ancestry, with particular expertise in East Midlands families, Irish roots, and Liverpool genealogy. I can also follow ancestors who emigrated to Australia, the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. If your family took you beyond the UK, we can discuss what is possible on the call.
If your enquiry involves a DNA test — unexpected results, unknown parentage, adoption searches, or NPE discoveries — the free call is still the right starting point. I will explain how I combine DNA evidence with documentary research, and what a DNA-led investigation is likely to uncover in your specific situation. Read about DNA investigations.
In over 20 years of research, I have never found nothing. I may not find exactly what you hoped for — but I always find something worth knowing. If records are genuinely unavailable, I will tell you that honestly, explain why, and recommend the best available alternatives.
Investigations are fixed-price, starting from £199 for a single surname deep dive. The full price depends on the scope of the research. You will receive a clear written quote before any payment is made. There are no hourly rates and no surprise invoices. View all investigation packages.
